Tutorial: How to Dice an Onion

My least favorite part about any recipe used to be dicing the onion.  That is, until Dana worked at The Viking Store, and learned a great way to do it.  It's so quick and easy, you won't even shed a tear!

Start with the evil onion.

Cut off the end, not the root so it can sit nice and flat, like this:

Cut it in half, through the middle of the root.  Pull back the skin so you have something to hold on to, like this:

Make cuts through the radius of the onion.  More cuts make a smaller dice, less cuts make a bigger dice.

Then cut horizontally through the onion, holding the grip you made with the dried skin.  Again, more cuts make a smaller dice, less cuts make a bigger dice.

If you want to run your knife though the onion once more to make it smaller, go for it.  Once you get good at this, you won't need to though.  You're welcome!
